Sherwood is a non-auditioned community concert band based in SE Calgary.

Adult musicians, of all levels, meet up to rehearse or perform on Wednesday evenings. Every year the band performs several concerts, at seniors’ homes and for family and friends.

Rehearsals

We rehearse at MidSun School - 660 Sunmills Drive SE from 7:00pm to 8:55pm. Doors open at 6:45pm. We must vacate the school by 9:00pm.

History

The band started with a group of parents whose children were in the band program at Sherwood School. The original name of the group was the Sherwood-Like-To-Play Community Band.

Meet Our Conductor
Chris Greschner

Born and raised in Alberta, Chris has been learning, playing and teaching music for most of his life.

He has a passion for music and a drive to connect with and inspire others through active participation in band. He is currently the music director at Christ the King School in southeast Calgary, where he leads a junior high band program of over 200 students in grades 6-9 as well as an elementary music program for grades 1-5.

He has spent eleven years teaching in the Calgary Catholic School District, where his bands have received multiple awards and recognition.

Chris has been the enthusiastic band director of Sherwood Community Band since the Fall 2017.

Chris remains active locally as a performer on both trumpet and percussion, having enjoyed recent seasons with the Calgary Civic Symphony and Alberta Winds. Chris holds Bachelor degrees in Music Performance (Trumpet) and Education from the University of Calgary.

When he is not working, he loves spending time with his family: wife Jeannine, daughter Aida, and Corgi/Jack Russell terrier, Lucas.
